The information system on the territory of the City of Prague (IST) is a continually updated data, application and service system designed for the administration, sharing and publishing of data and information describing individual units of the territory of the City of Prague.
The system comprises the following components:
1. Data
2. Systems for administering and processing data and information
3. Applications for sharing and presenting data and information
The territory information system is not, from a technological point of view, a unified application system, but rather is created from a number of sub-systems, closely linked by content, data and technology connective structures.
Data and databases
The core of the information system is a collection of data about the territory. Data providing descriptions of phenomena in the territory are acquired directly from the activities of URM (the Prague City Development Authority) or from external sources. Fundamental requirements for the data to be included in IST are constant updating, completeness of content, high technical quality and guarantee of source. The data included in IST are used for updating basic data collections, in particular the Digital Map of Prague, Territorial Analysis Reference Materials and the Development Plan of the City of Prague and also serve as a reference source for decision-making in territorial and investment planning and in other activities.
System for administration and processing of data and information
The applications ensuring the creation and updating of data and operation of the database are created with the use of powerful systems for working with geographic data and database systems. Advanced GIS and CAD technologies are used for the administration and processing of geographic data, and advanced database systems for the administration of geographic data.
The technological platform of IST is the Oracle relational database with the Spatial option component for saving ArcGIS ESRI data and technology for the administration and publication of data.
Applications for sharing and providing data and information
Provision of data and information and sharing it when needed by the public, public administration and partnership subjects is the fundamental task of IST. Generally speaking, two types of services are provided: publication of on-line map presentations and information output produced by an analysis of source data; and services ensuring the provision of or access to IST's own geographical data sources.
Public access to the map facilities is supported by a number of technological platforms. For the great majority of public users, web applications based on HTML/JavaScript are supported, with a simple, standardized, intuitive interface giving access to map views of the geographical data according to thematic categories and to related database registries and agenda. This system has been developed using the ArcGIS Server and the ArcIMS ESRI component and the T-WIST application system of the T-mapy, s.r.o. firm, and is designated by the collective name WebGIS Praha.
For the basic level of provision and publication of maps and information services, OGC (WMS) and ESRI company standards are used.
Provision of source data and data output from IST is ensured by a unified dispensing system for the support of personal data extraction in the URM workplace, processed using ArcGIS ESRI technology. System for providing and selling data products via the internet eShop started 1.10.2009.
