Strategic Plan for Prague

The Strategic Plan for Prague is a long term conceptual document which determines goals, priorities and ways of solving key issues of city development for a period of 15–20 years. It was approved in 2000 (see Prague Municipal Assembly Resolution No. 19/03 from 25 May, 2000, submitted by the Council of the Prague Municipal Assembly, processor City Development Authority Prague). In December 2008 its update was approved (see Prague Municipal Assembly Resolution No. 22/42 from 11 December, 2008, submitted by the Prague City Council, processor City Development Authority Prague). Monitoring reports for given periods on fulfilling the strategic planning of the City of Prague will always be processed and submitted to the Prague Municipal Assembly for discussion.

strategický plánThe update of the Strategic Plan for Prague was carried out based on Prague City Council Resolution No. 0221 from 17 February, 2004 and Prague Municipal Assembly Resolution No. 15/08 from 26 February, 2004 further to the monitoring report on fulfilling the strategic planning of the City of Prague in the period 2002–2003. Significant events and changes have occurred since the approval of the first strategic document of Prague of this kind. The main reasons for the update were consequences of the Czech Republic’s accession to the European Union, the increase of security risks related to global terrorism and floods (August 2002), new trends in urban planning, and Prague’s intention to apply to host the summer Olympic Games.

The executor of the Strategic Plan for Prague is the Strategic Planning Department of the City Development Authority Prague in cooperation with other departments of City Hall and with organisations of the city. Within the framework of the update, three workshops — Territorial Development and Transport, Security, and Prague on the Market of European Cities — were held. The updated document underwent Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) in 2008, with the participation of Prague boroughs, non-governmental organisations, respective municipalities of the Central Bohemia Region with extended competence and respective administrative offices.

The Prague Municipal Assembly approved the update of the Strategic Plan for Prague on 11 December, 2008 by Resolution No. 22/42.
